See tens of thousands of wildebeests gather at the riverbanks of the Mara River and attempt a crossing of the river. The animals cross to follow their food – grass – which grows all along the path of the Great Migration. Happens 2 to 3 times a day in 10 specific points of the river.

After a 730am breakfast we will drive to Lake Eyasi which is a famous soda lake near theNgorongoro Conservation Area. We suggest leaving the lodge at 8:30am at the latest for our one-hour drive to the Hadzabe Bushman Tribe. Expect to spend an hour and a half or more with the fascinating Hadzabe bushmen! After the Hadzabe we will drive 30 minutes to the Datoga Trive. Expect to be back in our lodge by 3pm for a late lunch and for a restful afternoon. It will be pretty hot in the tribal areas so dress appropriately. This area offers a very different experience from national park safaris in the northern circuit. The location is famous for being home to the Hadzabe - the last hunter-gatherers of East Africa whose practices have remained the same for over 10,000 years. The Datogas however are more like the Maasai. They engage in agriculture and are excellent at working with metals.

Early breakfast then driveNgorongoro crater, Ngorongoro has the highest density of mammalian predators and the densest concentration of lions anywhere in Africa! Along with the big cats, the real special animal found at the base of the crater is the endangered Black Rhino. Once found in most parts of sub-Saharan Africa, Black Rhinos have been poached to near extinction, and Ngorongoro is one of the few spots where we can spot these creatures. And to add to theRhinos, as well – but these may be difficult to spot.

After a 700km march, Wildebeests and Zebras arrive in the North to prepare tocross the Mara River. Even if the river is infested with crocodiles and the surrounding areas withother predators like lions and leopards, the animals must cross the river to reach the greenergrassland regions. You will feel and see the tension, the panic, and the confusion as theyprepare to enter the dangerous waters. The chaos that ensues as the animals battle the ragingcurrents and crocodiles creates a natural phenomenon unlike any other. It makes for quite astunning and unique experience. In the meantime, after checking in and a siesta, we will enjoy an afternoon safari reconnaissance drive to explore our surroundings.
