DAYS 1 & 2: ARRIVAL JRO AIRPORT (KILLIMANJARO) - TRANSFER TO ARUSHA – EXPLORE ARUSHA

Jambo Tanzania my friends!

Your safari adventure begins with your arrival at Kilimanjaro

International Airport (JRO), where you’ll be warmly welcomed by the Miguu Expeditions Team. From there, enjoy a colorful 45-minute drive to Ngaresero Mountain Lodge, a peaceful retreat nestled at the foothills of Mount Meru, Tanzania’s second-highest mountain. Mount Meru is also home to the Mount Meru National Park which in itself is a good safari and trekking destination only 30 minutes from Ngare Sero.

Ngare Sero is one of our favorite places to stay in Arusha—sprawling, serene, and surrounded by lush greenery. The lodge and its environs are a mini-wildlife reserve with rich bird and monkey life. The lodge is renowned for its warm hospitality, delicious food, and tranquil ambiance, making it the perfect place to relax, recover from your long journey, and ease into the rhythm of Tanzania. It also has a good spa – but make sure to book early because of limited space. By the way, the African cuisine in Ngaresero is excellent. Order in advance.

On day 2, explore Arusha’s colorful markets or visit the Serval Sanctuary for close encounters with rescued wildlife.

Accommodation: Ngaresero Mountain Lodge for 2 nights

Board Basis: Bed & Breakfast “lunch and dinner for the guest account”.

DAY 3: DRIVE FROM ARUSHA TO TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK I

After breakfast at Ngaresero Lodge, we set off for Tarangire National Park—a scenic 2.5 to 3-hour drive covering approximately 130 km (80 miles). Along the way, we will enjoy captivating views of northern Tanzania’s landscapes and glimpses of Maasai village life as we drive through the Maasai Steppes.

Upon arrival, we’ll begin a game drive through Tarangire’s iconic baobab-dotted plains and riverine woodlands. The park is famed for having Tanzania’s largest elephant population and also shelters rare species such as the fringed-eared oryx, greater kudu, and ashy starling. With over 500 bird species and regular sightings of lions, leopards, cape buffalo, zebras, and wildebeests, Tarangire promises a rich and rewarding safari experience.

In the late afternoon, we’ll check in at Katikati Tented Camp, enjoy dinner, and embrace the serenity as we prepare for the adventures ahead.

Accommodation: Kati Kati Tented Camp
Board Basics: Full board

DAY 4:TARANGIRE DRIVE TO LAKE MANYARA AIRSTRIP FLY TO SERONERA AIRSTRIP-CENTRAL SERENGETI

After a delicious breakfast at Katikati Tented Camp, we will check out and have a scenic drive through the Great Rift Valley region, the drive to the Lake Manyara airstrip takes approximately 1.5 hours while the short flight to Seronera in Central Serengeti will take 45minutes to 1 hour.

Upon arrival in the Central Serengeti, check in at Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge, a luxurious safari retreat that seamlessly blends comfort with adventure. Ideally located, the lodge offers sweeping views of the Serengeti plains, providing the perfect base for an unforgettable safari experience.

DAY 5: FULL DAY GAME DRIVE IN CENTRAL SERENGETI – RHINO TRACKING

In the heart of Serengeti after a delightful breakfast at Kubukubu, we will dedicate a full day safari experience focusing on the rich biodiversity and predator sightings.  If luck our day will begin with an exclusive Black Rhino Tracking excursion in the Moru Kopjes, located approximately 40–50 km southwest of Seronera (approx. 1.5 to 2 hours’ drive depending on wildlife activity along the route). The Moru area is one of the few regions in the Serengeti where Eastern Black Rhinos can still be seen in the wild, protected under strict conservation efforts. This is a rare and meaningful opportunity to observe one of Africa’s most endangered species in its natural habitat.

We will continue your day with a game drive through the Seronera Valley, known for its year-round water sources and abundant wildlife. The valley is situated within a 30–40 km radius from the lodge and offers some of the best chances to encounter lion prides, leopards, cheetahs, and large herds of herbivores. We’ll enjoy a picnic lunch in one of the designated bush sites. During the drive, you will also pass by the iconic “Pride Rock”, an ancient granite formation believed to have inspired the setting in The Lion King. By late afternoon, return to Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge (drive time varies between 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on your location). Unwind with a refreshing sundowner, followed by a delicious dinner under the stars. The evening is yours to relax and listen to the sounds of the wild and reflect on a memorable day in the heart of the Serengeti.

DAY 6: SCENIC DRIVE FROM CENTRAL SERENGETI TO ARUSHA

Following a 7:00am breakfast at Kubu Kubu we check-out at 8:30 am, and commence our return drive from Central Serengeti to Arusha via Manyara, a distance of approximately 325 kilometers, requiring an estimated 5 to 6 hours by road excluding stops for lunch and shopping. We will stop

for lunch and a shopping opportunity in Manyara. We expect to arrive at the Ngare Sero Mountain Lodge at 5:00pm at the latest for your last, relaxing night in the beautiful Ngare Sero Mountain Lodge, your home away from home.

As your Tanzanian adventure comes to a close, you'll take with your memories of untamed beauty, heartfelt hospitality, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

What to Expect

Weather and Atmosphere

  • Intermittent      Rains: April &  May is the season of brief intermittent showers in Tanzania and Africa. The rains will create lush, vibrant  environments. The rains are typically brief downpours, followed by clear  skies, giving you a mix of weather and dramatic skies throughout the day.
  • Milder      Temperatures:      With the rains, the temperatures are more moderate. Coastal areas may see  highs of around 30°C, while the cooler highlands, like the Ngorongoro      Crater, will be colder, especially in the mornings and evenings, from 17°C      to 19°C. Expect temperatures of 19°C  to 30°C in Tarangire and Serengeti.
  • Dust: Dust is endemic to safaris although the rains should minimize the  dust. Bring face masks just in case   the dust is heavier than expected.

Scenic Landscapes

  • Vibrant  Greenery: The rainy  season brings lush greenery to the savannahs and forests. The vast plains   of the Serengeti and Tarangire National Park will be full of rich, green grass and blooming wildflowers, creating an incredibly picturesque backdrop for your safari.
  • Dramatic  Skies: Rain clouds  can make for spectacular skies, with dramatic sunsets and lighting that will enhance your landscape photography.
  • Rivers      and Waterholes:      With the rains, rivers and waterholes are full, creating stunning      landscapes with reflective waters and wildlife coming to drink. This adds      an extra layer of beauty to your photography, especially with animals like      elephants, lions, or buffalo interacting with the water.
  • Birdlife: April & May is excellent for      birdwatching. Migratory birds are abundant, and you can spot a range of      species, including flamingos, storks, and raptors. The lush landscape      attracts a variety of bird species, providing amazing photo opportunities.
  • Wildlife      Encounters: Wildlife is never predictable but one      thing is sure, the more time you spend exploring and waiting, the better      the opportunities will be. Tanzania      is dense with wildlife.

Photography and Instagram Opportunities

  • Lush Landscapes: The vibrant greenery from the rains transforms the landscapes, offering rich backdrops for wildlife   photography. The lush fields, blooming flowers, and full rivers add depth      and texture to your images.
  • Dramatic Lighting and Skies: The rain clouds and fleeting showers create dynamic lighting, with soft, diffused light in the mornings and evenings. This gives you the chance for stunning sunrise and sunset shots with moody skies, golden hour lighting, and dramatic storm clouds.
  • Wildlife in Vibrant Settings: Animals against the backdrop of verdant grasslands, flowering shrubs, and sparkling waterholes create beautiful and dynamic shots. Elephants, giraffes, and buffalo in the green savannah are especially picturesque.
  • Fewer Tourists: The low season means fewer tourists, specially in Ngorongoro, allowing you to capture more intimate, unspoiled moments without the crowds. Popular spots are often quiet, giving you unique access to both animals and landscapes
